::Cirque Du Soleil:: #amaluna

::Momma Disclosure:: {This is a compensated post in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil. All opinions and statements expressed below are my own and true and honest. All professional photography provided by Cirque du Soleil PR. }

Houston is a wonderful city filled with so many things to do! I love the fact that shows that are presented in New York or Vegas and even over seas are brought here to our city. One of my favorites is Cirque Du Soleil, as I stated before, from the first time we went to Cirque we fell in love. The artistry and talents displayed are so unique. Amaluna was no different; it was a nail biting and mystical show, I loved it.

::After the show we had the awesome opportunity to learn more about the myterious BIG TOP::

Cirque du Soleil has a resident show which is in Las Vegas and  a traveling show which is called the "Big Top". The Big Top travels to various cities and even over seas. It displays flags across the top of the main tent which represent the different nationalities of the shows artists. I thought this was a great way to honor the artist. The Amaluna tent has 17 flags. The Big Top to me is all about the ambiance and a more intimate setting which I love. Amaluna is the 33rd production and there are 36 shows in all.

Amaluna to represents the beauty and strength of Women. The shows producers made a conscious effort to cast more female roles and a 100% female band.  The shows feminism gives off of sense of woman power and definitely inspired me. It's so whimsical and interprets such a great love story. According to the shows PR director the gymnastics were incorporated to help display a variety of talents, so uneven bars  were included. Cirque showcases acrobatics and theatrical acts with live singing and acting. Amaluna has only been out for 3 years and on the 27th of February they will celebrate their 1,000 show. The show takes 8 days to setup, 3 days to take down and runs for about 4 weeks. Cirque travels with 65 full truck loads. This show includes a water-ball, the acts based around it are phenomenal.

Amaluna can be very family friendly but some of the comedy is for adults. I recommend it more for a date night or girls night out. I would bring my kids but my 4 year old daughter loves visiting bathrooms everywhere we and is a busy body, so I am sure we would miss something. My son I know would be very amused. There is a lot of research and development that goes into every show . It's a very intense process that it takes about 4 years to develop one show. The show then goes to what they call the "the lions dens" where it is decided if the show makes the cut or not. The shows are are live and therefore every night can be modified and  might not ever be the same. Live shows can be very grueling the artist take Monday off. They travel with physical therapist and have a full gym on site.

The moment of shock came when during the Q&A my Hubby who is not part of the media or a blogger asked about a specific balancing act and its uniqueness!! It was a great question and the PR director loved that he asked about it. And it was a very unique act only one man in Switzerland can do it and  it is unique to the couple of people which he trained; on of which is his very own daughter! Her and another young lady now trade off in the show to perform it.

Over all the show displays female empowerment  and attempt to break all gender stereotypes which still very much exist in 2015! But, this show  breaks those barriers through their acts and performers. Every cast member has a special  talent and strict discipline and  Cirque Du Soleil definitely allows them to showcase it. Scouting  for the show includes watching YouTube videos and visiting various cities to watch live auditions. The average age for the performers is 25/26 with the youngest being 17 now,she was 15 when cast.

If you have not purchased your tickets do it now before the show ends on March 22nd!

#PampersFirsts ::Event Recap::

::Momma Disclosure:: {This is a compensated post in collaboration with Pampers. All opinions and statements expressed below are my own and true and honest.}

Momma Disclaimer: FOR ALL MOMMA'S AND MOMMAS-TO-BE... GET SOME TISSUE!!!

I remember being a first time Momma, trying to take it all in and knowing that no matter what, I needed to be my best and try my hardest for this tiny new being. Flickering in my belly. The tiniest person I had ever met who now occupied my whole entire heart and home. My children are no longer babies, but thinking back on moments like my first ultrasound, their first bath and all the other great memories, makes me want to shed a tear, or two...or more! Those moments were special and beautiful to remember.

This past weekend not only was I able to reminisce on the tiny beginnings and firsts of my babies. I was also able to share with a wonderful group of friends and Momma bloggers, as well as with my own Momma! After we watched the #PampersFirsts video it sparked memories of when our little ones were born.  We began to share our birth stories and first moments as Momma's.

Our stories brought on laughter, some tears and serious conversations about our experiences. We had a new Momma-to-Be among us and she sat quietly taking mental notes about it all. The moments can be overwhelming, but we promised her that once her baby was born all those things are forgotten and all you know is a beautiful tiny soft baby ready to be loved and held! That first moment when you meet that little human being that has been growing inside for  9 months or so, it's like nothing else in this world. You will never forget that moment when you first look into their eyes and kiss their soft warm cheeks. The beautiful baby smell and giant cries. Their tiny hands holding on tight to your fingers.

It's all so new, at times even a little scary but the first hugs, the first sweet baby kisses, the fist MA-ma, the first steps, the first "NO!", the first tantrums it's all part of the amazing new life that you help create. Those moments will never come back so enjoy them, embrace them and if you can record them and take a lot of pictures. You will not want to miss them and you will not want to forget them.

Thank you Pampers for warming our hearts and bringing back all the "firsts" in our lives!

::Te Para Tres:: Recap #VidaLexus

::Momma Disclosure:: { This is part of a compensated event. All opinions and statements expressed below are my own and true and honest. }

A few weeks ago I was asked to help cover a very special event here in Houston. One that I was more than willing to attend considering that La Santa Cecilia would be playing! I fell in love with La Marisoul's eclectic style and beautiful personality as well as her voice the first time I heard her sing last year at another event. Her and her band have a very folkloric rock style if it can be described as that. Their music is, I think, a little bit of Ranchero, NorteƱo, & Cumbia with a rock-band appeal.

And, then there was Pili, she might not remember but I met her years ago at Latism here in Houston. She is beautiful, determined and very well poised. Everything about her screams  rock chic. Her style and her presence are strong and very sophisticated. She is now the host of Te Para Tres, you might also recognize her from the Christmas commercials with Eugenio Derbez.

On this day, I was able to team up with a dear friend that coincidentally enough, I also met at Latism back in 2012, Ari from 3TwentySix. As well as a large group of local Latino bloggers all of which are part of why I took my blog to a different level. Juanof Words, who invited me to my first blogger conference which yes was Latism. I guess you could say that it was a mini-reunion for me. His wife Anjelica, of Crafty Thrifter. And, Yvonne of Spoiled Latina. So much great talent and recognized Latino writers and Social Media experts, it was a fun reunion for sure!

The event was held at the House ofDereon, another local orgullo, home of  #QueenBey that to me was the cherry on top. I was able to invite a couple of friends and my Hubby who almost always loves to tag along on fun events. The venue was very fitting for the cultural take-over of the Houston night. The music was, on point, as one would say! Drinks are always a favorite. But, the one thing my Husband could not go without sitting in was, the cars. Lexus is known for sleek beauty, luxury and sophistication. All of which is embodied in their latest models.

In all the night was fun and upbeat, the dance floor was never empty and every song gave you a new reason to stand up and just dance!

Panic Attacks are Uncool!

Photo Credit: Google Search

Panic attacks are uncool.

Back in 2012, I had the most uncool episode. I had to quit my job. I was faced with a horrible feeling of being beside myself. I was laying in the ladies room at my work place with a good friend/co-worker trying to calm me down. Paramedics filled the bathroom and asked of past history. As I write this I tingle and get clamy. It's not cool ya'll! It's the most horrifying feeling ever. To be in a room but nothing makes sense. Your breathing shortens. Your mind clouds and the moment seems endless. I wasn't dying so I went from work to an ambulance to sitting in a downtown ER for hours. Before being sent home with the diagnosis of "crazy person". Not literally but you know what I mean. It was not the most pleasurable experience. And, it was bit embarrassing.

To this day I see people from my old job and they tell me how that was their last memory of me. Me being wheeled out on a stretcher.

It's not something that I had warning signs for or that slowly came up with different symptoms. I was a Momma of Dos {2}, working full-time with a Husband who was a student and away for almost 2 months in Utah on an Internship assignment. One day I was in "total control"; running a home and getting occasional help with the kids, living alone for 2 months, working as a full-time Assistant Supervisor helping run an office of about 50 employees and "making it all work".  And, the next day I was sitting in my office in a meeting with my supervisor and a group of other employees when I couldn't breath and had lost it.

It's been over 2 years since that happened. I "took it easy" for a while as recommend by my doctor, but how long can you really "take it easy"? Life is hectic. It's hard to always be in relax mode. Despite doctor's recommendations, I never took medication for my "condition". Instead I got a new job, less stressful, and started a new type of lifestyle. Still, life is life.

These days, the moments of panic come and go. I have learned to control them and manage my day to day with them. I have learned that if  a place is too crowed or stuffy and small, I get a little more nervous and anxious. But, overall I try to make my "overwhelming" situation into one that I can control.

Here are 3 simple ways that I control my panic attacks;

1) ::Breathing Exercises:: Some times I know it's all in my mind, I take deep breaths slowly get up and walk away from the room or what I am thinking and try to relax my mind. It's a rush of nervousness that fills my brain and it quickly travels to all other areas of my being. So, I feel it coming on and I sit back and tell myself it's going to be OK. Some days that works, others I have to get up and walk around or find a quiet place to just relax for a few minutes.

2) ::Asking for Help:: I used to be scared to ask others for help. I hate being a burden. I don't like bothering others, everyone is busy. But, I found that for the most part if I simply ask, people are more than willing to help me. I don't do it often but when I do I make sure that it's for something important. These days, I am always scared people will say no, and they do but I just keep asking around and eventually someone will be available and can help me!  It's also not easy if you don't have too many friends or family that live close by. I have also learned to voice my need for help to my Husband, who then will give me a hand or take on extra time with the kids.

3) ::Take Time Off:: I have learned to just have days where nothing is going on. To relax, catch up on sleep and enjoy the nothingness. It's hard to do as a Momma and some days are better than others. But, even if it's a few extra hours to sleep in or just lay on the couch and relax, I do it. I try to because life becomes busy, very quickly. That's exhausting and draining. And, it affects my level of anxiety. Taking advantage of down time is key in getting your mind clear.

All of these changes help me, the biggest help is seeking medical assistance and/or counseling. I would never have thought of all this on my own, it's something I have learned from different health care professionals.

It has been easier to  manage my everyday. Life can be so stressful but there is always a way.  Never give up on yourself. It might not be easy but it will be worth it.

::Confidence to Speak:: On being a Panelist

When I started writing years ago it was all about journaling, keeping record of my pregnancies, recording the small happenings of Momma-hood and my children's milestones. These days I can only hope that my blog posts reach the right people and that the words being typed on my computer at home can touch someone's heart. That I can be relate-able and that the information being given is useful for someone to feel motivated, inspired and moved to do what they love!

A couple of weekends ago I was given a wonderful opportunity to be a panelist on the "Blogger Bonanza" panel at the Woodlands Mom Expo! The experience was definitely unique and a first for me. I have never spoken to a large crowd about blogging in this type of setting.

The speaking opportunity was presented to me by another good Momma friend Shana of the Real Single Moms Club here in Houston. I am so appreciative of her confidence in me. And, thankfully Lori, the creator of the expo, believed in me enough to take me on as a speaker for her event. I learned a lot about myself  and about public speaking in general.

It wasn't a task that I took lightly. No matter how small of duty it might have been for some, I prepared and even took on a mentor. My dear San Antonio Sister Melanie of Que Means What. She was the best at giving me speaking tips and what to be prepared with. I felt really good and she helped build my confidence.

I looked through the topics that were going to be discussed and made a "cheat sheet" for myself. I thought about my answers and how I would convey my message to the group. I told myself that no matter how many people were present I would speak on what has become one of my biggest passions and motivations.

And, in all honesty the day came and I was a little nervous. I think because I took my role very serious and prepared for it, I had more confidence then if I had not been as prepared. I also reminded myself that I had to be honest and consistent with who I really am. I am all about being ones true self. No need to hide who you are, people will love you or not and that's okay with me.

My best advice and take away from this experience; If you really want something, GO FOR IT! Don't allow anyone or yourself to hold you back!

I also created a handout for the presentation which contained the following tips.

::Top 5 Momma of Dos Tips for Newbie Bloggers::

So you want to be a Blogger?

5 jump start tips for all new bloggers:

  1. Create a Blog and topics that you LOVE and appeal to what you want most out of your blog. It will help when trying to reach your target audience.
  2. Find like-minded bloggers and follow their blogs or join their networks; don’t be shy! Everyone started somewhere and you will need support!
  3. Be consistent; try to post once a day on your favorite Social Media platform  and at least twice per week on your blog. It’s important to build and keep your audience growing.
  4. Each platform has it’s “tricks”, do your research and learn those details that will help you grow your social media sites. Ex: Twitter and Instagram-hashtags; Pinterest- good, rectangular pictures with wording; Facebook-tagging posts and how they are shared.
  5. Don’t forget to have FUN! Blogging should be your passion and something you want to do, it’s like everything else…if it becomes a chore then it loses its light!

::Amaluna:: Cirque Du Soleil in Houston GIVEAWAY

::Momma Disclosure:: {This is a compensated post in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil. All pictures provided by PR for Cirque du Soleil.}

Years ago my Husband and I decided to check out a show called Corteo by Cirque du Soleil. We had no idea what it was all about and wanted to try something new. My Husband was hesitant. He didn't think it was something "guys went to". When we emerged, it had become one of his new favorites. The show was amazing. We couldn't get enough and have since been able to attend 3 other shows here in Houston! I love the convenience of it being here in our home town, and the venues are usually an intimate small setting perfect for taking it all in.

Cirque du Soleil, if you have never attended before is a mix of an acrobatic act, with a musical and theatrical show. It's very magical and they definitely appeal to the adult crowd with a very sophisticated circus atmosphere. If you didn't get to celebrate Valentine's day this is a perfect date night idea. Each show displays a unique set of talents and artistry it's something we have enjoyed in the past and can't wait to see this year!

You are not convinced yet that you want to go? Well how about some FREE tickets to their new show here in HOUSTON!

::Details about the show::

AMALUNA
Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.

In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.

Amaluna is a fusion of the words ama, which refers to “mother” in many languages, and luna, which means “moon”; a symbol of femininity that evokes both the mother-daughter relationship and the idea of goddess and protector of the planet. Amaluna is also the name of the mysterious island where this magical story unfolds.

A TRIBUTE TO THE WORK AND VOICE OF WOMEN
For the first time in Cirque du Soleil’s history, Amaluna features a cast that comprises 70% women, with a 100% female band. “Amaluna is a tribute to the work and voice of women”, explains Director of Creation Fernand Rainville. “The show is a reflection on balance from a women’s perspective”, he adds. Director Diane Paulus, winner of a 2013 Tony Award (Pippin) and recently named as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2014, says: “I didn’t want to build a ‘women’s agenda’ show. I wanted to create a show with women at the center of it, something that had a hidden story that featured women as the heroines.” Paulus drew from a series of classical influences when creating the concept of the show; including tales from Greek and Norse mythology, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL
Some 30 years ago, Cirque du Soleil was but a dream. It was the dream of a small community of travelling performers who would do anything to share their love of the stage, of circus and of the world. The family has grown since then and now includes thousands of dreamers—creators, artists, technicians and workers who toil in the shadows. The dream has become a symbol of QuĆ©bec pride, an international entertainment company that has brought 35 large-scale shows to life—20 of which are still in operation. The company, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in June 2014, has brought wonder and delight to close to 150 million spectators in more than 300 cities on six continents. Cirque du Soleil has close to 4,000 employees, including 1,300 performing artists from close to 50 different countries.

What was taken...

It’s a day I will never forget. It’s not the day my kids were born or the day I got married.

It’s the day my house was broken into. And, as dramatic as this may sound you think you know but until it happens to you, you really have no idea.

Friday it will be one month...

I came home from work and walked in the front door at about 5:30 pm; straight past the living room into the dining area. I was on the phone with a friend. I put my left over lunch and mail on the kitchen table. Within minutes I realized my house was not as I had left it in the morning. Random stuff thrown all over the living room floor, every drawer in the kitchen left wide open, so open the ones on my computer desk had broken. I ran out of the house, as if I was staring in my own scary movie…. and immediately told my friend with a slight panic in my voice..."Oh my God, I think my house was broken into!!" And, hung up.

I had run straight out of the house and across the street to a neighbor’s yard as I frantically called 911. Immediately the dispatcher knew something was wrong as fear and emotions filled the phone line.

I was a victim.

I felt helpless. When I realized what was taken and how things could have gone so different had I gone to pick up my kids first or come home earlier. I suddenly felt hopeless.

These “people” had invaded our home. Our home.  A place that is supposed to be safe and secure. Where my little babies lay to sleep and play, carefree and happy. They had taken our belongings. OUR belongings. I don’t know who these "people" think we are but those items were not so much valuable as they were meaningful. We worked hard for years and continue to do so to obtain the little bit that we have. Living within our means and only making large item purchases when they are purposeful. We don’t have that kind of money just lying around waiting to be spent. We, like many other average income families, work very hard, long hours every day to earn a living. We make sacrifices for all that we have and how far we have come...

How did I feel? I was disappointed. For days I felt sad. My privacy invaded on so many levels. These “people” know what we look like, how we live and invaded our living space. I felt angry. At them, at myself. The what-if’s sink in. The WHAT-IF’s overwhelm me.

Then.  The calm. The little things that reminded me, they took things. Things that maybe one day will be replaced. Things. I embrace my little crazy kids and love my Husband. Yes, those people may have taken my sense of security to a certain level. Made me a little uneasy. They rocked the boat just enough to open our eyes to what really matters.

But, you know what they didn't take my faith, my courage and my will to work even harder and be an even better person! They may never pay for what they did... and that's OK. It's not up to me to handle that, I must simply move forward.

In those days I learned a lot about safety and security from of course the internet, other Bloggers and just talking to people about it and their own personal experiences with break-in's. Everyone I spoke to had the same thoughts of how their privacy was invaded and their sense of security was shot but they also all had the same spirit of; it’s happened once, it will not happen again!

We  eventually explained it all to my kids, they were so angry and in their own ways expressed how upset they were. My daughter wanted to beat people up and my son wanted justice to be made. These days, they pray every  morning that the bad guys don't get in our home and rob us again.

{My Blog will be lacking nice pictures for a while...because those people stole my camera with all my accessories. In the mean time I will use pictures taken with my phone. Sorry!}

Tomorrow tips on how to prevent break-in's, on being "prepared" and what to do if it does happen to you.

::Self-Love:: & the Love Yourself Movement #MTMEshop

::Momma Disclosure:: {This is a compensated post in collaboration with Motherhood Through My Eyes and her Love Yourself Movement. }

::The "LoveYourself" movement is to help women, especially moms, share their thoughts on why it is important to love yourself. As a mom, it's tough to put yourself at the center of anything. We're always busy trying to love and care for others that we forget to love ourselves.::

You too can show your support for the campaign by buying a Love Yourself Tee!

Visit the MTME shop: http://mtmeshop.storenvy.com

As a young adult, I never feared not being loved and didn't really care what I looked liked. My confidence was stable. Very stable. It wasn't until I had a child that my body changed and so did my feelings. I started feeling, so inadequate and simply, plain out ugly. As a women I learned that beauty is of a certain size, shape and color. I  didn't allow that beauty to grown deep within me and bloom. Instead I allowed it to fester into an obsession of what I look like and what will others think of meEspecially after I became a Momma.

Truth is, beauty is who you are. Beauty is within, as clichĆ© as that may sound. To me beauty is not something that others should except from you but instead something that you as an individual should seek in yourself. The worse thing to do is hate yourself. Or disrespect your body, mind and soul because of what others may think of you or expect from you.

Finding the real beauty is about loving who you are, what you look like, and how you feel.  Acceptance of your hair texture, eye color and yes even that hideous belly flap, because no it’s not pretty. As a now Momma of Two amazing children, who tell me daily.. “Mami, you are so pretty.” I accept the way I look, I embrace my body that has changed and that belly flap that follows me everywhere I go.

It didn't take a day to realize that this is who I am, it took a lot of ugly crying in the bathroom and even some therapy to establish this now LOVE/some days hate relationship with the flap and my new body image.

It took months of deciding that I would exercise and eat better to be healthy and strong; not to be able to fit into a 2-piece bathing suit but for my growing children. It took hours of reading my Bible and daily affirmations to realize that my heart and mind weren't in the right place for a long time. It took speaking to other women similar to me and who looked like me, yes belly flap and all, to know that I am loved and accepted for who I am.

It took constant affirmation from my Husband who is loving, caring and very patient with me and my self-consciousness.

But, the real love for this Momma of Dos comes after much time invested in ME. Loving who I am is a daily struggle. Reminding myself that I am who I am, and that the way I look can’t be my biggest fear. That I shouldn't care if others love me until I can learn to love myself. That’s when the real respect and love are shown.

Self-Love is so important to us as Momma’s and it’s important to support one another as we attempt to discover and gain the self-love needed to move forward.
