::Momma Date:: #DANCE

Last week  I took some time off before I started a new job and on Friday I decided to meet up with a friend. At a dance class! That's right, we made plans and I finally visited the famous Crystal Wall MixFitz Studio.

The experience was amazing. The group of ladies was wonderful. I can't wait to go back!

Crystal and I first met at the beginning of the year at the "Vision of Love" event here in Houston. I was totally blown away by her passion and her REALNESS. She said something to me on Friday morning that I can't stop thinking about. She said that she lives in North side {Houston} because "it's both a little of the city and a little of the hood." I identify so much with her because of things like this. I grew up in North side Houston but where you live and where you come from have nothing to do with who you will become and where you will go.

Her personality is so positive and her smile is motivating. She is a Momma like many of us, she is a #BossLady, entrepreneur and businesswoman who is filled with class but keeps it real. I love that about her.

She is so down to earth and I loved her high energy and ability to teach us all of her choreography. I love that her studio is geared towards women, I felt so comfortable shaking my booty and being ME. Her #1 Rule is "HAVE FUN!" She started her class by reminding us that we should be ourselves, that she was going to rock that workout with her style and personality and that we should give it our own unique all.

Her class is definitely one that I recommend and really any of her instructors and classes look great!

Thank you to my friend Yvonne from Running in Faith for the shared morning! Loved it all!

::The Word...Millennial::

What does it mean to be a Millennial Mom?

I don’t think I ever saw myself as a Generation X member until a few months ago.  The word didn’t really resonate with who I thought I was. Surely the word meant overachieving and highly accomplished. Here I was “just a Mom”. I knew of the impact that some young 30-something year-old's had not only in my personal life but in many aspects of life in general; technology, medicine, and yes; marketing and social media. But, didn’t see how I could be considered a part of this group.

First off, I never imagined myself a Mom in my 30’s. I pictured my life very much like the ladies from Sex and the City. I know so cliché of my generation. But, being a high powered career woman in charge of her life doesn’t seem so bad these days. I knew marriage might be in my future and children, sure why not? It wasn’t until September 16, 2009 when my son was born, that I realized that this was it. My career and life would make what I think has now become a complete 360. A rebirth if you will.

And, as I sit and reflect on this word and what it means to me I can’t help but think of the generations before me and how as a Mexican-American Mom, I have some pretty big shoes to fill. My Mother and Grandmother didn’t have a lot of the advantages or resources that the last decade or so have brought forth and at the same time those “advantages” bring on new challenges as a 30-something year old mom. For me one challenge has been learning to incorporate traditional advice and methods of raising children while considering and combining them with new research and more current techniques to create the same or a better outcome.  I aim to motivate my children to be educated and hardworking respectful children who will one day be fully functional and well-adjusted adults. Another challenge is the aspect of deciding to be a stay-at-home mom which is a difficult feat or making the sacrifice of leaving your children in the care of someone else to become a career mom. Either one has its pro and cons.

I believe that technology has created a new sense of community with moms, not only in our home town but around the world, which allows me to seek new methods of parenting. The world today has created an openness and awareness that maybe wasn’t there in years before. These days the internet being in every device we can hold gives us an easier and faster way of obtaining information needed in our everyday lives as new Moms and Dads. Some may see these as not the best resource but when you might not have anyone else to turn to it creates a great source of information.

Aspirations and the what if’s of life now revolve around my children, their well-being and our future as a family. The word Millennial is starting to grow on me and who I am, an accomplished and overachieving Mom. I aim high, not only in my personal outcomes but in those of my family. These days the word inspires me to provide for my family as a career woman while attempting to keep the traditional and cultural aspects of my up-bring within our own home.

Being a Millennial Mom to me means taking advantage of the new resources and communities created while keeping traditions and morals alive in our home in the same way that our Mama’s and Abuelita’s did years ago.

Minted {Momma Review} #minted

{Momma Disclosure: I did not receive compensation for this post but I did receive Minted Business Cards in exchange for this review from Minted in association with Texas Women Bloggers. The statements below are both my true and honest opinions.}

Last year when I was sponsored to attend the Latism Conference here in Houston, I was ecstatic. And, then I thought, “I need a business card!” I headed out on an online quest to find the perfect business card. I wanted something new, fresh, clean cut and that reflected ME. I found sophisticated and soft, the complete opposite of me, but I went with it. I had discovered MINTED

My business cards were a hit and within a couple of days and a few meetings later, this Momma had handed out 50 business cards. I was definitely a happy Blogger. Minted is not limited to business cards though and the perfect time to be sophisticated and elegant is when you are about to enter into wedded bliss.

Minted has the most beautiful wedding invitations and they are very reasonable. The quality of paper is more than great and they have a wide selection of unique styles. You are not limited though; you can also give your selection a personal touch by creating your own design. A design specialist then works with you to perfect and approve all of your edits. It gives your shopping experience a far more personalized finish.

They now also have a new feature called Inspiration Boards; these boards are filled with ideas that can help you when making decision for your own wedding by exhibiting some of the best color coordinating and  most romantic wedding ideas.

I loved working with Minted once before and I am more than happy to be working with them now. I recommend you hop on over to their site and see what you have been missing. Wow your guest with beautiful invitations. You will not regret it.

{Material Girl in an Industrial World}

I am a Momma of many words. My brain over loads and at times I don't know if, how, when, or what to express but I do; in hopes that someone will be moved, motivated, or inspired to share their stories.

I am no SuperMomma nor do I pretend to be. I fail. A lot. In many, many, did I say many, areas of my life. I do. I cuss, I throw fits and I have melt-downs. Small ones. Big ones. Overly dramatic ones. But still, I move on.

It's been 11 days since my last post. So much has happened in those 11 days this Momma received a job offer, and I then proceeded to about 7 days of approving, document signing, drug screening, background screening, I think even credit screening. As well as re-enrolling my children into daycare. {A whole other post all it's own.} Then days of mental, physical and emotional preparation happened. Trust me the last 11 days have been busy for us.

Our home and hearts have been buzzing. Now notice, I haven't mentioned the words "dream job" I think in one of my last posts I mentioned, obtaining the right job for the right now. What is going on right now, is only what is right for now. I have a lot of faith in my decisions and my Hubby and I have discussed them thoroughly and it's what is best for us. There is plenty of time for dreams to come true.... plenty of room for growth.

For now my motivation are my Hubby's words. He says to me days after I accepted my new job offer... "all of the sudden the possibilities seem endless...." {as he stares at a 60 plus inch flat screen, blah-blah-blah at Target} and they do. He is my biggest support, my biggest cheer leader. We have faith in one another.

{About the job}

I don't usually speak too much about work. Work is work and because the world wide web is a public place I trend to keep certain information private. I will say this. I am in a whole new industry. I have become a material girl in an industrial world. Literally. It will be a new experience and one that I have been prepping for, for some time now. I am really enjoying the change of scenery. It's close to a lot of things and I love it.

I do feel super girly being in this mostly male dominated environment but it looks like it will be fun. I am excited. Did I say that already. Ha.

I hope all the Momma's had a great day last weekend and I will be back soon with not so many words and some pictures! You can also follow me on Instagram for a picture overload @mommaofdos or head on over to our facebook page ::HERE::
