::Let’s Go See:: Visionworks #AD

::Momma Disclosure:: This is a compensated post. All statements are my true and honest opinion.

I still remember the day I got my first pair of glasses I was in the 5th grade. Knowing how imperative it would be to my overall function, I wasn't ashamed or scared but thankful that I could now see better. I know the importance of good eyesight the older I become the more I stress wearing my glasses and getting my eyes checked regularly. Now that I have children I am constantly checking for signs of good or bad vision.  As they continue on their journey through school and life I will always be on the look out for signs of needing glasses, I know how beneficial they are.

Which is why when I heard of the Visionworks and Davis Vision's goal of giving away 10,000 comprehensive eye exams and complete pairs of glasses to children in need; I was happy to share the information with all my readers!

All children should obtain annual eye exams. Every child. Every year. My children go to daycare and they are a great resource and reminder of our annual exams, my kids also get their vision tested by their pediatrician. I know that a much more in-depth analysis will be needed as they grow, which is why I would trust the experts like Visionworks.

::A message from Visionworks::

You can take the action needed to help get your child a yearly exam. "Take the pledge to get your kids an eye exam every school year, starting this year! It's as important to their health as annual physicals and dental exams." Parents can take the pledge at http://www.letsgosee.net/pledge/

Help a child in need:

Visionworks is giving out 10,000 vouchers good for a free eye exam and glasses. If a child doesn’t have vision insurance or Medicaid, aren’t signed up for ACA and can’t afford an eye exam and glasses, or if you know of a school or organization that has children who could benefit, nominate them for a free voucher at http://www.letsgosee.net/help/

Nominations can be made in English or Spanish.

An eye exam may be the simplest test kids ever take. It’s certainly the most important for helping shape their future outlook.

Let’s Go See is a national movement to raise awareness of the importance of annual eye exams for children as part of their yearly health routine.

As a parent, how can you be sure your kids' vision isn't keeping them from doing their best in school, enjoying life fully, and being successful? The answer is an annual eye exam. An easy way to remember is to add "Annual Eye Exam" to your child's Back-to-School checklist and they'll start every school year with optimum visual performance to achieve both inside and outside of the classroom.

Some of the signs that your child might have trouble seeing:
  • Headaches and dizziness
  • Squinting
  • Holding books close to their face or too far away
  • Sitting close to the TV, computer or tablet
  • Twisting or tilting their head to favor one eye
  • Frequent blinking or rubbing their eyes
  • Inability to judge distance properly (bumping into things)
  • Decreased performance in school and athletics

Add an annual eye exam to your child’s annual appointments, and find your closest Visionworks at http://www.visionworks.com/locations/results.php

{Thankful Thursdays} Link-Up!!

Have not done one of these in a while... definitely need to be reminded these days....

Thankful Thursdays Button

This week I am most thankful for:

{My Age} I will be 32 in June. That means I have lived through a lot with a lot of people who have come and gone. I am thankful for life, my life experiences and always making the best of every situation. I have in my 32 years gained wisdom, faith, and hopefully maturity. I know what I want and where my life is going. Sure nothing is set in stone and I don't have life figured out but I definitely know who I am and where I am going.

{Sincerity} I have a lot of friends who have the best interest in mind and who are all living their lives on their own terms and following their own paths. I like to think that when it comes to our relationship they are being sincere. I am thankful for their sincerity and honesty. Be who you are and never allow popularity to overcome truth. It's what I have learned.....

{Becoming a Stay@HomeMomma} My children will only be 3 { and 7 months} and 2 yrs old once. I will never be able to come back to this stage of their lives again, it's been so critical, our bonding, my patience being tested, and our lives being rocked to their very core. We have had to experience the best and worse of each other to know that, this is it, our little family of 4, we have each other and I pray that we will be here for one another for years, and years to come. My 6 months at home have made me thankful for my life, my children who are an amazing Blessing and for my Husband who has become an even more amazing Provider. It's been difficult. But, I am thankful.

{Social Media/Networking} This has made me feel relevant. I usually shy away from joining big groups of super important and accomplished Bloggers/Writer/Activist/ Social Media Gurus because I am intimidated by their expertise. But, I have been so Blessed to have been added to some pretty awesome groups of  Bloggers/Writer/Activist/ Social Media Gurus not just from Texas but from all over the U.S. They have made me feel as if what I sit and enjoy doing is well worth it. I am thankful for those group of  Bloggers/Writer/Activist/ Social Media Gurus  who have made me feel as if I belong. It's so important as a Stay@HomeMomma to have a sense of self and community. Thank you everyone.

What are you most thankful for this week??

{Orgullosa} A Community of Strong Latinas

Orgullosa_Logo_RGB

When I hear the word "Orgullosa", I can't help but laugh. Yes, literally out loud. You see; when my Hubby and I first got married and we would go back to his parent's house to visit them, his GrandMother, whom he lived with alongside his parents would say... "Orgulloso, Presumido! Ya no nos vienes a ver!" They would make fun that since he now had a home of his own he was too proud and stuck-up to visit them in their humble home. In reality, my Hubby was and has always been very close to his Grandparents. It was all in good fun, and the term was used loosely.

Which, was not far from what I grew up thinking the term was or meant, which was that being "orgullosa" {or orgulloso} was a bad thing. You see when I was young, my upbringing taught me to be humble and to never feel superior to others, but to make sure to accomplish just as much or more through hard-work and dedication. As a Hispanic/Latina in the U.S. it would be the only way to prove myself and to redeem my parents transgression into this country.

Then I grew up, not ever in the best of circumstances or situations but I grew up. I went to school and graduated college and have been a part of established and well-known organizations. Not only did I graduate college and become a hard-working Mexican-American Citizen; I later became a Wife to a student who just last year also obtained his college degree and during that time I also became a Momma of Dos, hence the Blog, constant sharing and story telling.

And, though I know that we are far from being where we want to be or that we are anywhere near obtaining all of what we know we can achieve, I am VERY orgullosa. For many reason, not just of how far I have come and where I stand but how far my family as a whole has gone and where we are yet to go. While, we must always humble ourselves and treat everyone with equal and growing respect, I now know that the more I grow as an individual and the more I learn as a human being, the term ORGULLOSA more clearly represents what I have become. Orgullosa of my achievements and accomplishments as the daughter to Mexican Immigrant parents. Orgullosa of my growth and experiences as a college educated Mexican-American professional. Orgullosa of my life and everyday work as a dedicated and humble Wife and Momma of Dos. Orgullosa of my Mexican roots, culture and heritage. Orgullosa of who I am, who I have become and who I want to be. Not only as a person in general but as a Momma, as a Wife, as a Daughter, an Hermana and Amiga, as a Professional and Visionary and as a Writer and a Parenting/Lifestyle Blogger!

To me the word Orgullosa has turned into my confidence! But, I have not done it alone. I have worked alone but I have had a amazing community of support always by my side. Whether my community consisted of one family member or a group of fellow Parent/Lifestyle Bloggers, always a community to back me up, to guide me or to help me in my time of need!

I encourage all young Hispanic Women to be orgullosas of who they are and to strive to be more than anyone would ever imagine them to be! To be confident and bold in who they want to become. To never allow what terms "should" mean to hold them back. To wear their orgullo with honor and confidence in what they have achieved.

As Latinas/Hispanas it's a challenge to find our place in this ever growing market. I know that my biggest inspiration has come from watching my Momma work day in and day out as a housekeeper. Her words and her hard-work and dedication to her family has been my motivation to go beyond the expectations of others and this world. I seek everyday to be stronger and to be Blessed in everything that I do and how I go about doing it. I find it important to seek our talents and our inspirations in our everyday, in our families, and in our immediate surroundings. In our communities whether they be in person or through social media!

Which is why I encourage all of my fellow Women with Orgullo to visit www.orgullosa.com and to follow Orgullosa on Facebook {http://ow.ly/gMpy0 } as well as to join the Orgullosa community {http://goo.gl/J7KDV} !!

Only as a united group or community will we increase the amount of women who can be Orgullosas and confident in their accomplishments, NO matter how big or how small. We should learn to encourage one another and be able to share what we have done that makes us so ORGULLOSAS! Orgullosas not only of who we are but also where we come from!!!

Confiansa y Orgullo! Let's wear it proud Orgullosas!

Please be sure to visit the sites below!!! A great community filled with "Mujeres con la Falda Bien Puesta" are there ready to share their most proud moments with us, to inspire and motivate us to do and be more!!!
